KOTE

We could say that the little Kote, as we call it at home, is the best of all our cats. He is tremendously docile, affectionate, playful and obedient. A reddish charm that is easy to fall in love with at first sight and that becomes the new lover of Tina and Ayla.

About Us

We are a small family breeder registered in ASFE (FIFE) number 2312, and in C.F.M. (WCF) number 646. Our AFFIX in both associations is RAUL BUHO and we are specialized in Abyssinian with the coat colours ruddy and blue.

We have several Abyssinian cats and cats that live at our home and share our day-to-day life. All the affection we transmit to each and every of our “littluns”, later transforms into kindness and personality.

On their own, the Abyssinian as a breed already is an exceptionally affectionate animal. And this trait is accentuated when reared in a family-type setting.

Why Abyssinians? I couldn’t say for sure why I fell in love with this breed. So let’s start at the beginning: I was 16 years old and I wanted a cat… Looking up ‘cats’ in an old encyclopedia I saw a photo of an Abyssinian. But my mother wasn’t amused by the idea - nor by the fact that I had saved up money – so, in the end, there was no cat!

A SMALL

FAMILY BREEDER

More than 30 years passed, and one November day, I suddenly remembered that moment. I started to research again, and from then on, my love for this breed has never stopped growing. My first kitten was ABY, the prettiest and most affectionate little thing you can possibly imagine. Unfortunately, an accident took her nine little lives away much too early. But I was already hooked and there came NICO – the choice of name was no coincidence: my idea was to stop smoking and enlarging my little family with the money saved. And thus after Nico, Tina came. (I’ll never forget that thanks to Nico and Tina, I got over my nicotine addiction). And after them, many others came into my life…

Aby, Nico and Tina were only the beginning of a story that continues to excite me. They say that Abyssinians are more dogs than cats – but for the barking!

We are located in Valencia, and you can come to see our home to get a feel of the setting and atmosphere in which we breed our ‘littluns’. The kittens are available from the age of 12 weeks onwards – which is the only way their mum can rear them adequately. When you get them, all the kittens have received their trivalent vaccinations twice, their leukemia vaccination and de-worm treatment. They also have their microchips implanted and come with their European passport and their pedigree is in process.

Family breeding brings out

the cats

of pharaohs

The Abyssinian cat, like all "natural" or ancient races, has an uncertain past. It is believed that they originate from Abyssinia (the current Ethiopia) and that they descend from one of the varieties of cats that existed in Ancient Egypt.

Legend has it that its origin was on the banks of the Nile River, when Ramses II asked the king of Abyssinia for a clowder of cats, which the latter obligingly fulfilled. Abyssinian cats wandered around inside the great temples of ancient Egypt.

In other words, they were considered the children of the gods, their worldly reincarnation. They represented everything that was good, everything divine, and they were given the respect and adoration that their status demanded.

But all this is legend - or maybe not ... In any case, the Abyssinian breed as we know it today has an ancestry that goes back no further than the 19th century. At that time, rather than definite breeds there were just diverse types of cats.

THE REINCARNATION OF THE GODS

At the beginning of the 19th century, there started to be an interest in Europe and America for all kinds of animals. It was only a matter of time until a group of cat lovers appeared, who were more specialized than those who simply loved cats and kept them as pets.

The most important fact and what ultimately triggered the appearance of cat enthusiasts all over the world, was the
exhibition that took place in the Crystal Palace of Sydenham on July 13 th, 1871. It was an instant success and cat enthusiasm started right there. The only documented fact on Abyssinian cats is that in 1868, a captain Barret Lennard returned from a British expedition to Abyssinia with a cat called "ZULU". It was in 1882 when the Abyssinian was recognized as a distinct breed, but the name Abyssinian was not definitely adopted until the establishment of the Abyssinian Cat Club in 1919.

MORPHOLOGY

The Abyssinian is a mid-sized animal of about 4 to 7.5 kilos. With an elegance and harmony similar to wild cougars, it has a flexible, firm and muscular body. Its legs are long, thin and muscular and make it look as if they were constantly tip-
toeing. They have large, almond-shaped eyes of intense yellow, green and amber, that are well separated and enhanced by a surrounding area of lighter colour. The fur is short, dense, elastic and close to the body. The officially recognized coat colours are: RUDDY BROWN, sometimes described as burnt sienna and ticked with darker brown or black; SORREL, a cinnamon shade ticked with chocolate- brown; BLUE, a warm beige ticked with various shades of slate blue; and FAWN, a warm rose-beige ticked with light cocoa-brown.

CHARACTER

They are very active and playful animals, curious but balanced, endowed with a strong personality. They are independent yet affectionate and sociable. They do not like to be alone and are interested in a direct relationship with their human family members. They are very intelligent and athletic and could be described as eternal kittens or cats’ equivalent to Peter Pan. The Abyssinian is an authentic blue blood, bred by the aristocracy for their own delight. They are the very definition of elegance. It is one of the oldest cat breeds and lack the more exaggerated features often found in more modern breeds. Being such intelligent animals, they often exhibit a considerable sensitivity in relation to the moods of their human companions.
